A-Cappalooza

Come to a great a cappella concert  at Newton South High School auditorium on March 3, 2012, at 7:30 PM.

A-Cappalooza will feature Newton South High School “Newtones,” Newton North High School “Forte,” and two professional groups: Berklee College of Music “Pitch Slapped” and the Boston-based all-male group, “Redline.”

Newton May Lose Bus Routes

The MBTA is proposing to eliminate several bus routes through Newton.  Up for elimination are bus 52 (Centre St. to Parker w/ stops near South High School, Oak Hill and Brown); bus 170 (Waltham to W. Newton to Boston) and express buses 500, 554, and 555. All Newton bus routes are under consideration for reduction or elimination. read more »

Newton Family Singers Host Community SingAlong

The Newton Family Singers invite singers of all ages and abilities to a Community SingAlong. Come sing with us, and enjoy a cozy afternoon of favorite songs with friends, family and neighbors, on Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 4:30 to 5:45 PM at the Waban Library. For lyrics we’ll use the folk song collection Rise Up Singing, so bring a copy if you can. Acoustic instruments are welcome.

Classes at Waban Library

The following classes are offered at the Waban Library Center:

Music Making, $72, Ages 15 mos. to 3 yrs., six Fridays (EVERY OTHER WEEK), 9:30-10:15 AM with Linda Emmanuel.

Toddlers and caretakers: join Miss Linda for sixweeks of music making. Kids will discover their inner musicians! Fun instruments and props will help us explore concepts like fast/slow, loud/soft and start/stop. Miss Linda has a Master's in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from the Longy School, a B.M. in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory, and is on the faculty of the Winchester Community Music School.). Brookline Music School’s Term II (Spring) programs run January 31-June 17, 2012, offering a variety of classes and private instruction for all ages and abilities.

Programs offered include early childhood music and movement and dance classes, Suzuki instruction, group classes including Beginning Piano, Group Voice, Music Technology, Garage Band, iPad Band, and Jazz Theory, as well as Jazz/Rock/Pop, Chamber and Flute Choir ensembles for kids, teens and adults.

Resources for Families of English Language Learners

Come to a Resource Fair for families of English Language Learners or former ELLs on Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Newton North High School cafeteria.

Cabaret Troupe's "Crazytown"
