Boston is famous as the vanguard of the American Revolution--but the Revolution would have been impossible without the men and women of rural Massachusetts. This talk explores the revolutionary network that linked Boston and its neighbors, including Newton.

The leaders of the resistance against Great Britain made a massive effort to galvanize Massachusetts. The Durant family and their community offer a window into the inner workings of the Revolution. read more »

Newton May Lose Bus Routes

The MBTA is proposing to eliminate several bus routes through Newton.  Up for elimination are bus 52 (Centre St. to Parker w/ stops near South High School, Oak Hill and Brown); bus 170 (Waltham to W. Newton to Boston) and express buses 500, 554, and 555. All Newton bus routes are under consideration for reduction or elimination. read more »

Newton Centre Ice Rink Grand Opening

Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Newton Centre Ice Skating Rink! Mayor Setti Warren partnered with Newton Community Pride, local businesses, residents, and Alderman Vicki Danberg to install a skating rink in Newton Centre. The Grand Opening, on Dec. 31, 2011, at 11:30 AM, is part of the Mayor's New Year's Open House Celebrations.

The Sheryl Franks Creative Skating Academy will perform at the Opening Ceremony. The rink is free and open to the public from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM all winter season. Skating is at your own risk, and hockey is prohibited.

The rink is located at the Newton Centre Green, between Centre Street and Langley Road. Call 617-527-8283 for more information.

Classics in the Afternoon
