Despite a rain soaked, chilly spring day, over 250 runners, walkers, and families braved the elements for our 16th Annual Angino Memorial Road Race and Family Field Day held Sunday, March 29th.
This 3-mile road race, held annually in loving memory of Ernest and Jerry Angino, longtime YMCA members and supporters, raised funds to benefit the Newton Rotary Club's Gift of Life scholarship for Jhon, a ten-year-old Ecuadorian suffering from a serious heart condition. With these proceeds, Jhon will be able to continue his education and stay healthy and happy. We will use the remaining funds to purchase interactive cardio equipment for our Youth Fitness Center.
The Family Field day events were moved inside and went off uninterrupted. In addition to the kids' races around the indoor track, fun family activities included obstacle courses, potato sack races, a moonwalk, and 3-legged races. Participants were also treated to a visit from Circus to Go! Clowns from the Big Apple Circus who provided giveaways for the kids.
