Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

My friend, Kristen, recommended this book to me last summer. It has been sitting on my shelf on the Cape over the winter. I am almost finished and I love this book. Barbara Kingsolver’s attitude about living right, eating right go right along with my ideals. Although I cannot see myself living on a farm, I am more convinced than ever about the importance of eating local product, or at least organic.
Her discussions about the politics of farming are frightening. I see a new cause on my horizon. “Eaters must understand, how we eat determines how the world is used.”
Finally, the chapter about Italy confirms my belief that Italians know how to live.
“Nostro terra…E suo sapore. I’m no expert, but I see what it means. You can taste our dirt.”

Thanks, Kristen. Next I'm reading your recommendation, The River Why.

I decided it would be fun to keep my friend, Holly Golightly, and start a Great Books group. It is an easy way to experiment with the site and maybe find some good reading material.

The last great book I read was called Chronicles by Bob Dylan. He is an incredible writer and the book is a great snapshot of our culture.
