Organization's Mission: 
The mission of Communities Without Borders is to educate AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children, primarily in Africa, in order to nourish hope for a better future for them, society and the world. Our approach fosters building ongoing community to community relationships at the grassroots level in order to increase the quality educational opportunities for these children. We take groups of self-funded service volunteers each year to Zambia representing our U.S. community partners for two week work projects.
How to get involved/application guidelines and procedures: 
We are looking for organizations (religious organizations, businesses, schools, institutions, neighborhoods) who will make a long term commitment to support a community of AIDS orphans and their caretakers in Zambia. We now have ten such "U.S. community partners," three in Newton. We would love to come to your group with a slide show of pictures telling our story and showing the successes of our Zambian students.

The Newton Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1965 with a mission: To provide Newton and the surrounding communities with fine music at affordable prices, close to home; to provide area volunteer and pre-professional musicians with the opportunity to develop their skills and play high-quality music; and to enhance music appreciation, promote cross-cultural understanding, and build community through outreach programs for students, seniors, and others.

<p>The Suzuki School of Newton&nbsp;has approximately 300 enrolled students learning instrumental classical music on violin, viola,&nbsp;cello, flute, guitar, piano or harp.&nbsp; These music students also perform over 30 school and community events per year.&nbsp; SSN is located in the Newton Cultural Center, and this spring, as part of NewtonServes, the Newton Cultural Center will need volunteers to help continue to improve interorior spaces with a fresh coat of paint or putting up shelving.&nbsp; Next Fall, the Suzuki School of Newton endeavors to open a new half-day integrated arts preschool program.&nbsp; More information is available by calling the SSN&nbsp;office.</p>

<p>The Newton Symphony Orchestra is composed of about 70 musicians who meet regularly to rehearse and perform four or five concerts per year. The <a href="http://www.newtonsymphony.org/The_Orchestra.html">orchestra</a> has a reputation throughout the Boston area for producing exciting, high quality concerts. For each concert the orchestra is joined by <a href="http://www.newtonsymphony.org/Guest_Artists.html">guest artists</a> of international caliber; some from the Boston area, others from far flung places who are visiting as part of a wider concert tour, or who visit specifically to play with us.</p> <p>Our concerts can be seen regularly on NEWTV, on the green channel.</p>

<p>West Suburban YMCA Awarded 2008 Non-Profit of the Year YMCA awarded Non-Profit The West Suburban YMCA was presented the Non-Profit of the Year Award at the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce Annual Achievement Breakfast Tuesday morning, November. 25. Pat Palmer from the West Suburban YMCA accepted the Non Profit of the Year award from the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce annual meeting on Tuesday, November 25, at the Marriott in Newton. The Newton Corner-based YMCA, which runs more than 100 programs and 50 group exercise classes a week, never turns anyone away due to inability to pay. Patrick Palmer, president and CEO of the YMCA, said that the effect the Y has had on the community has changed considerably in the last several years. The impact of our mission has grown so much in the last five years. We're touching the lives of so many financially challenged families. In 2007, 525 children and families received a total of $525,000 in financial aid.</p>
