Organization's Mission:
The mission of Communities Without Borders is to educate AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children, primarily in Africa, in order to nourish hope for a better future for them, society and the world. Our approach fosters building ongoing community to community relationships at the grassroots level in order to increase the quality educational opportunities for these children. We take groups of self-funded service volunteers each year to Zambia representing our U.S. community partners for two week work projects.
How to get involved/application guidelines and procedures:
We are looking for organizations (religious organizations, businesses, schools, institutions, neighborhoods) who will make a long term commitment to support a community of AIDS orphans and their caretakers in Zambia. We now have ten such "U.S. community partners," three in Newton. We would love to come to your group with a slide show of pictures telling our story and showing the successes of our Zambian students.

Summer Opportunity For Newton High School Students: Sub/Urban Justice Summer 2009 Are you an emerging leader? Are you ready to make your school or community a better place? Sub/Urban Justice is currently accepting motivated students into our summer program - SJS '09. This six week program (July 6th-August 13th) will provide you with the leadership skills you need for the future. SJS brings together a diverse group of students from the Greater Boston area to learn about social justice issues (examples include the environment, housing, race, education, class, sexism, immigration and transportation). Participants will learn about the world by engaging in interactive games, workshops, group discussions, field trips and community tours. Over the course of six weeks, participants will hear lectures from local social justice experts and network with other Greater Boston youth groups. By the end of the summer, you will have developed a community action project on an issue that matters to you. Graduates of SJS are encouraged to apply for our year-round employment program to continue working on their projects during the school year.
