Our six-week build season is over, and we have bagged our robot!
On bag day, all FRC teams must stop working on their robots, place them into a large plastic bag, and send timed photographs of the process to FIRST to prove they have bagged before the deadline.
In February, the LigerBots were faced with multiple snow days and February vacation, which forced us to work wherever we could to finish before the deadline, including at the houses of several coaches and in the garage shop of team supporter Ian Clark. It was hectic, but at 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday February 21, we finally bagged our robot!
Our Chairman’s Award presentation group submitted their award essay in February, and are now practicing the oral presentation they will give before a panel of judges at our first FRC event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on March 9 and 10. The Newton North High School Graphics department is hard at work, printing our competition spirit posters, banners and flyers, The LigerBots are improving our competition “pit” structure to add strength to the frame, and are making compartmented wooden pit storage boxes to house tools and batteries.
LigerBots outreach doesn’t stop, even during build season. In addition to the Booz-Allen and Just Think! Expo events we attended in January, this week the team had a robot demonstration and outreach table at the N2 Innovation District maker space event on Needham St. in Newton. In the next month or we plan to do a robot demo and STEM outreach at a Newton elementary school, at the Boston STEM Fair (March 12 at the Arsenal Complex in Watertown), and at the Cambridge Carnival and Robot Zoo at the Cambridge Science Festival (April 15 at Cambridge Ringe & Latin High School).
