engaging summer experience learning and working on OurNewton.org. The initial weeks typically involve a lot of training and as the interns become more familiar with the back end, they can propose projects focusing on specific areas of interest All students participating in the Mayor’s fabulous program also take weekly workshops offered by Quinn Etchie, Director of Youth Services, Quinn Etchie, at qetchie@newtonma.gov.
It is a great experience working with these two young men. We interviewed Chris and Elijah to get to know them better.

Q: What area of study are you passionate about?
A: I am very passionate about the arts, whether it is visual or literary. I find it interesting to read stories/examine art from people who lived centuries before us, and surprising that some works are still relevant today. I also enjoy mathematics, and science (sometimes!).
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: In my free time, I like to make art while listening to music. I usually make my art digitally, but recently I’ve been trying more traditional methods. I also love to play soccer and exercise with my friends, usually non-competitively.
Q: What is your favorite meal?
A: I don’t think I have a favorite meal; I love a variety of different dishes and it all depends on my mood. A good sandwich/sub is always appealing, though.

Q: What area of study are you passionate about?
A: I love learning about History–ancient or modern, US and World–all history fascinates me. As well, I am very interested in economics and political science, and the ways they intertwine in the world around us.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: For fun, I love playing most sports, especially baseball and basketball, with my friends and competitively. I enjoy spending time with my friends and also watching TV/movies and playing video games. I also love playing with my dog Rocky.
Q: What is your favorite meal?
A: My favorite meal is a burger.
