Historic Newton has a beautiful exhibit at the Newton Free Library in October — “Combs and Curls: Hairstyles as Statements.” From decorative combs to Afro picks, our exhibit shows photos and artifacts from Historic Newton’s collection that reflect how people style their hair as a personal and political statement. Enjoy exploring a timeline of trends in whiskers as well as women’s styles from 1840 to 1980 that shows the rise, fall, twisting, flattening – and flubbing of hairstyles.
