CALL FOR ARTFenceART: a Rotating Public Art ProjectDeadline for the 2020/21 season’s submissions: Thursday Sept 24. 2020 FEES:Submission fee : $0BANNER PRODUCTION FEE: $100, which will be refunded if we are able to procure our Newton Cultural Council grant (or a funding contribution.) WHAT IS FenceARTA jury of professional artists selects 20 works each year. Accepted works are printed as heavy-duty full color outdoor banners. Over the course of a year, the banners rotate to 5 Newton public fence locations for approximately 10 weeks at a time, in groups of 3 to 5 works. Artists may claim the banner (as is) at the end of the rotation period. ELIGIBILITYAll artists who reside, work, or participate in art classes in the City of Newton are invited to submit work for this public art project. Artists may submit jpegs of work in any media, including but not limited to photography, painting, quilting, collage, and photos of sculpture. E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N: artists accepted in any year must skip a year before applying again. (i.e., artists who were accepted into the program last year may NOT apply in this round). ATTRIBUTIONArtist name, image title, and artist website will be included on the banner by the signage team. Other than a signature that may already be included on the ORIGINAL artwork, please leave attribution to the signage team. TIMELINEDeadline for 2020/21 submissions: September 24 2020.Accepted artists contacted October 5.Accepted Artist List Published on October 5, at facebook.com/FenceArtNewton2020/21 Banners go into rotation in October/November. IMAGE SIZESEach image should be at least 4000 pixels in the larger dimension, and optimally 7200 or more in the larger dimension — the banner is a very large print.Maximum file size 10 meg. DO NOT ENLARGE small images to create your 4000 pixel wide-or-tall image; this generally results in a fuzzy image, likely to be rejected by the jurors. IF you have any questions about images sizes, contact Ellen Fisher at Ellen@Ellen-fisher.com. SUBMITTINGSubmit up to 3 images. Each image submitted* should be at least 4000 pixels in the larger dimension, and less than 10 meg in file size.Submit images by email with a subject line of “Newton FenceArt Submission” to Ellen@Ellen-fisher.comAttach images as “actual size” or in a zip file, or your email program will shrink them before sending.Artists who’s work is chosen give FenceART permission to use the image in promotional materials. Submissions will receive an acknowledgement email reply. If you do not receive an acknowledgement email, please send an inquiry email WITHOUT jpegs attached, so we can diagnose why the email failed to reach us. * In previous years, we asked for a smaller image for jurying, and a larger one if you are accepted, but we have streamlined the process this year. |
