The Wednesday Program for Senior Learners held at Coleman House in Newton (677 Winchester St.) is a six-week lifelong learning program that allows people to gather in person to explore, discover, and make new friends! Our fall semester begins on Oct. 4th, and runs until Nov. 8th. Our schedule includes gentle Tai Chi (seated or standing) with 2nd degree black belt Phyllis Benjamin (age 70) at 11:30, an educational lecture at 1pm, entertainment at 2:15, and a creative collaborations art group at 3:30, where participants can explore new skills and materials in collage, printmaking and sculpture just to name a few. Educational sessions for Fall 2023 include explorations of the Gullah Geechee culture of the American South, Allied Propaganda of WWII, and the historic Jewish experience in Rome. Later in the afternoons, we will celebrate Oktoberfest with acclaimed accordionist Sonny Arbato, move to the rhythms of Latin Jazz with Combo Sabroso, and discover Opera with Madeline Metraux, a 15 year old vocal virtuoso. The program cost for Fall 2023 is $85 ($75 if you bring your own lunch) The fee includes a boxed which consists of a sandwich (turkey, roast beef, chicken or tuna salad, etc.) fruit, chips, cookies and bottled water.
