Huge news! Newton was officially selected to be one of ten MA communities allowed to require electrification on all new and major renovations. The others include: Acton, Arlington, Aquinnah, Brookline, Cambridge, Concord, Lincoln, and Lexington (with the final spot still being decided).
One requirement of this pilot program through Mass DOER is that each community meets an affordable housing requirement of 10%, and we are very close to reaching it! The City of Newton is currently about 17 units short. Once we hit the affordable housing threshold, it will go into effect.
This has been a major effort by climate leaders over the past few years, and it brings us one step closer to electrifying Newton and drastically reducing our carbon footprint đź‘Ź
