A rare opportunity to hear Jan Dismas Zelenka’s joyful Missa Dei filii based on the Gloria text “Glory to God in the Highest,” performed by instrumentalists of Newton Baroque and the chancel choir of the Second Church in Newton, UCC. You won’t want to miss this extraordinary masterpiece in a living church service. Zelenka is a particularly special composer; he was part of one of the greatest orchestras of all time at the Dresden court from 1710 till his death in 1745. While today, Bach gets all the fame, Bach aspired to join the Dresden court orchestra and befriended Zelenka and a number of the other great musical minds in Dresden.
Minister of Music: Andrus Madsen conducts strings, oboes and bassoon of Newton Baroque and soloists Nicole Estima, soprano; Shiba Nemat-Nasser, alto; Thomas Osterling, tenor; Matthew Stansfield, bass.
