Fiery History Talk
March 18 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

How did threats posed by fire forge community in early America? And how did Newtonians respond? Explore the role of volunteer fire companies, read personal accounts that highlight the ubiquity of fire in the 1800s (including the Great Boston Fire of 1872), and examine artifacts from fire buckets to photographs to learn more about fire culture and the people and tools that helped protect the community. The image above is a puzzle that a child from Newton played within the 1890s. Register in advance for this program on Thursday, March 18 at 5:00 p.m. on Zoom.
