From the Moon Landing to Exoplanets

June 24 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Similar to the once unimaginable quest to put a man on the moon, over the past two decades exoplanets have gone from the stuff of science fiction novels to some of the most common objects in the galaxy. NASA recently launched the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, (TESS), headquartered in Boston. Join MIT Torres Postdoctoral Fellow, Jennifer Burt, for an intriguing talk that will cover:

The history of exoplanet exploration
The design and construction of TESS
How the satellite helps us to discover new and exciting worlds
The areas of science that astronomers can develop using pictures that TESS sends to Earth
