George Russell, Jr. and Lydia “The LovelySinger” Harrell – Fall Concert Series
September 25 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Newton Community Pride welcomes back to Newton George Russell, Jr. and Lydia Harrell for the jazzy, soulful afternoon of music and song. They had a fantastic performance during the 7th Annual Festival of the Arts in July and NCP is delighted to invite them back.
Lydia “The LovelySinger” Harrell is one of Boston’s finest musical treasures. Her sultry, soulful voice and evocative songwriting have garnered her the attention and respect of the nation’s finest musicians and venues. Jazz/Soul is where her heart is, however, Lydia has shown an unbreakable ability to mold herself into any musical situation. Be it performing with the Boston Pops, serenading NBA fans with America’s National Anthem, or lending her vocal talents to a chart-topping deep house single by a British record label, Reel People Music, Lydia’s dedication to extracting the pure essence of song goes virtually unmatched.
Prior to becoming chair of the Harmony and Jazz Composition Department, George W. Russell Jr. served as a professor of harmony and piano. He has been awarded the Ted Pease Award for Excellence in Teaching, along with the Curriculum Development Award for the Writing Division. He has also been recognized with the highest award that Berklee gives to faculty, the Most Distinguished Faculty Award. Russell’s motto is, “I would rather inspire than require.” He is known as a source of encouragement and inspiration to anyone who crosses paths with him.
