Join the Harmony Foundation, our event partners, and other community members from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. for reflection, music (including solo performances) student voices, children’s programming with Story Starters, service opportunities and more at Newton North High School, 457 Walnut St., Newton.

Program Timeline:

  • 9:15 Arrival
  • 9:30 Program Start
  • 10:15 Story Starters
  • 11:30 Program End
  • 11:30 – 12:30 Reception
  • 12:45 Service Education and Lunch for Participants (NNHS)
  • 1-3 Service (on site at NNHS and at Cradles to Crayons)

Here is our Book List for “Story Starters for Kids”: 10:15 a.m.  Recommended age is 3-8. This is not a drop off event.

FOOD DRIVE Collection Dates: Jan 8-15th
Please support the annual food drive held in honor of this event, and hosted by the Rotary Club of Newton in partnership with the Village Bank.

Requested Items


Cereal (Kid-friendly and name brands preferred), Hearty Canned Soup (meat, beans, veggies), White Tuna in Water, Ground Coffee, Shampoo, ,Deodorant,Toothpaste, Mac & Cheese. Cereal / Granola Bars, Baby Wipes

Food Drive Venues:

Village Bank Locations, Newton Free Library, Scandinavian Living Center, Newton City Hall, Newton Police Headquarters

This is a live event. If there is a snow or other emergency, registrants will be contacted by email, and updates will be posted to the city website.

“Spreading Winter Warmth” Service Projects

  • “Soup in a Jar” for Hospitality Homes
    All supplies for the soup in a jar and tea projects will be provided.

  • Blanket Drive for Welcome Home
    Regarding the Blanket Donations:

    Welcome Home provides families experiencing hardship with high quality household items they need to live with dignity.  Please join us by donating: CLEAN ** NEW OR LIKE-NEW **FULL, QUEEN, OR KING BLANKETS AND COMFORTERS (no rips or stains)

  • Tea Gifts and Cards for Seniors

  • Knitting Circle
    The knitting circle is “Bring Your Own”, and items will be donated.

Cradles to Crayons: 

This special occasion presents an exceptional opportunity for community members to come together and participate in a fun and impactful hands-on service event. Each volunteer will help combat an ongoing problem within this very community by quality-checking, sorting, and preparing clothing, shoes, and more for distribution to children in need. This volunteer work is essential in preparing Cradles to Crayons orders to go out to partnered children and families. 

Off-site Volunteering Available at Cradles to Crayons 281 Newtonville Ave.  in Newtonville, 1-3 p.m.  Volunteers will be directed at their site. Volunteers must be Age 5+

Registration is requested (deadline 1/12) for Cradles to Crayons volunteers (Jan. 15, 1-3 p.m.,  Cradles to Crayons @ 281 Newtonville Ave. All volunteers need to register by January 12.
