We would like to invite you to participate in a community-building celebration.
On Saturday, April 13th at 2:00pm on the third floor of the Newton Free Library, we will gather to collaborate and brainstorm on building a dance to perform around the periphery of Crystal Lake. The performance will be on Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at 11am. Read on!
The CRYSTAL LAKE COMMUNITY DANCE PROJECT produced by the Newton Choreographers Collective as part of the Newton Festival of the Arts.
WHO: Dancers, musicians, Newton community members and members of other communities. We expect perhaps 100 people: 5 musicians, 20 community members/dancers and 40-70 audience members.
WHAT: We have permission from the city of Newton to be on the three public parks surrounding Crystal Lake. We will all face in toward Crystal Lake as horn players and a drummer call and respond to each other from across the lake accompanied by a movement score by the dancers and community members. Included in the event will be a song about how we are One Lake One Community and how our differences disappear into the Lake. We will gather for snacks on the picnic tables at the bathhouse after the event.
WHEN: Saturday, June 15th, 2019 from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon
WHERE: On the periphery of Crystal Lake in Newton Centre at the three public parks – Cronin’s Cove, Levingston Cove and the Gil Champagne Bathhouse.
WHY: Our purpose is multifaceted:
a.) To celebrate the coming together of our entire Newton Community. To remind us of our local connection and, also, of how we are connected to everyone on the Globe.
b.) To celebrate the ‘crystal’ at the heart of our community: Crystal Lake.
c.) To honor Global Water Dances Day – to dance and make music in harmony with 140 other countries around the world who will be dancing on this same day as an expression of gratitude for water, and to remember that all living beings are connected through water and to promote the idea that all of us need pure, fresh water to live.
d.) To celebrate and express gratitude for the opening of our Crystal Lake swim season (June 15th at noon).
We hope you can join us on Saturday, April 13th at 2:00pm!
